Remembering R.A. “Bob” Hoover

The STIHL National Championship Air Races were saddened to learn this morning of the passing of R.A. “Bob” Hoover. An accomplished pilot himself with an air show career that spanned nearly 50 years, we were honored to have Bob join us in September at this year’s races. Described as “the best stick and rudder man” who ever lived, Bob entertained in Reno for many years. Friday and Saturday Evening Concert Location

The STIHL National Championship Air Races will hold two free to race attendees concerts this year. The first is on The Nick Lawrence Band on Friday evening and the second is The Juantanamos on Saturday. Both concerts will occur after the final race in the hangar next to the Checkered Flag Club. Wings of Blue to perform during the Opening Ceremonies at the 53rd National Championship Air Races. The Wings of Blue have a long standing commitment to personal and organizational excellence as well as a storied history of success. While the airspace that the Wings of Blue operates in is one of the busiest in the world, their drop zone is one of the safest. The primary mission of the Wings of Blue is to run the Air Force’s Basic Freefall Parachuting course, known as Airmanship 490 (AM-490). Reno, Nev. – The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) has released preliminary results for the 2015 National Championship Air Races and is projecting a profit of over $100,000. Results will be finalized at year-end. The original budget for 2015 called for a $630,000 loss, so the projected profit is very good news for the event. Over 150,000 attended this year’s event with pilots racing in six classes, an airshow featuring Tora Tora Tora!, a reenactment of the events of Pearl Harbor, and many other displays including static aircraft and the expanded Drone Zone.
