The Reno Air Racing Association Announces Results from Sunday, September 16th

-At the 55thAnnual STIHL National Championship Air Races-

Reno, Nev.– The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) announces the results of the Gold Races of the 55th annual STIHL National Championship Air Races held at Reno-Stead Airport on Sunday, September 16, 2018.

The final day of Race week began with the Welcoming Ceremonies, featuring the Fresnotes Quartetsrendition of the National Anthem while the Nevada Air Guard presented the Colors. With speeds reaching over 400 mph, all six classes of aircraft competed in the Gold Race heats to be named champion of the world’s fastest motorsport!

The results from today’s Gold Races are as follows:

  •  Unlimited – Joel Swager flying Dreadnought completing the course in 09:01.302 at an average speed of 417.735 mph
  • Jet – Mike Steiger flying American Spirit completing the course in 05:47.925 at an average speed of 486.208 mph
  • Sport – Andrew Findlay flying One Moment completing the course in 07:00.058 at an average speed of 402.716 mph
  • T6 – John Lohmar flying Radial Velocity completing the course in 07:35.947 at an average speed of 228.612 mph
  • Formula One – Justin Meaders flying Limitless completing the course in 06:15.065 at an average speed of 239.521 mph
  • Biplane – Andrew Buehler flying Phantom completing the course in 05:03.88 mph at an average speed of 221.721 mph

Performances from the Patriots Jet Team, John Klatt’s Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco, Commemorative Air Force Demo, USAF F-16 Demonstration and P51 Heritage Flight, NVANG C-130 Tactical AirDrop with two C-130’s, HondaJet Flight Demo and the STIHL Lumberjack Show entertained the crowds between the racing heats and youth and attendees explored the STEM Education Zone learning about aviation and technology. The National Aviation Heritage Invitational (NAHI) outdoor exhibit of historical military aircraft provided fans with the opportunity to take a stroll back in time with its antique aircraft. The pits were filled with fans engaging with the racing teams and talking with them about their favorite planes, crews and pilots.

STIHL National Championship Air Races Announces Results from Saturday, September 15th

Reno, Nev.– The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) announces the results of Saturday’s race heats held at Reno-Stead Airport on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

The STIHL National Championship Air Races kicked off on Saturday with the Welcoming Ceremonies, and the National Anthem sung by Sydney Hurley while the Nevada Air Guard presented the Colors. RARA recognized the Person of the Year, the highest honor of the organization, as Betty Sherman for her outstanding dedication to inspiring future aviators, her enthusiasm and support as a volunteer for over 30 years and for being a true ambassador of the STIHL National Championship Air Races.

All six classes of aircraft took the course in various heats throughout the day, along with performances from the Patriots Jet Team, Gene McNeely T-6 80th Anniversary Demo, the drag race of the Smoke N’ Thunder Jet Truck and the John Klatt’s Extra 300 L, John Klatt Airshows’ Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco, Commemorative Air Force Demo, USAF F-16 Demonstration and P51 Heritage Flight, NVANG C-130 Tactical Air Drop with two C-130’s, HondaJet Flight Demo and the STIHL Lumberjack Show. The STEM Education Zone hosted hundreds of youth and attendees with education around aviation and technology,including 3D printing, drones and robotics. Fans explored the National Aviation Heritage Invitational (NAHI) outdoor exhibit of historical military aircraft and fans roamed the pits to take a closer look at the aircraft on display and the racing team’s areas.

STIHL National Championship Air Races Announces Results from Friday, September 14

Reno, Nev.– The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) announces the results of Friday’s race heats held at Reno-Stead Airport on Friday, September 14, 2018.

Today, was Military Day at the STIHL National Championship Air Races where all current and former Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard received free admission to the Reserved Seating area and their accompanied family members received a $10 discount for Reserved Seating tickets and RARA staff passed out National Championship Air Racing hats to veterans who attended today.

RARA’s Military Day kicked off with Welcoming Ceremonies featuring Everett Musselman singing the National Anthem and the Colors were presented by Nevada Air Guard. General Jeannie M. Leavitt of the United States Air Force (USAF) performed a swearing in ceremony for cadets where they took an oath for enlistment in the USAF.

The day was filled with racing in all six classes of aircraft along with performances from the Patriots Jet Team, Gene McNeely T-6 80th Anniversary Demo, the race of the Smoke N’ Thunder Jet Truck and the John Klatt Airshows’ Extra 300, John Klatt’s Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco, Commemorative Air Force Demo, USAF F-16 Demonstration and P51 Heritage Flight, NVANG C-130 Tactical Air Drop with two C-130’s, HondaJet Flight Demo, and the STIHL Lumberjack Show. Hundreds of students explored the STEM Education Zone and learned about 3D printing, drone and robotics. The pits will filled with fans talking with the pilots and getting a closer look at the aircraft. The National Aviation Heritage Invitational (NAHI) was on display on the East end of the ramp were people could walk through this outdoor museum of historical aircraft.

STIHL National Championship Air Races Announces Results from Thursday, September 13

Reno, Nev.– The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) announces the results of Thursday’s race heats held at Reno-Stead Airport on Thursday, September 13, 2018.

Today’s events kicked off with Welcoming Ceremonies featuring Jen Grant singing the National Anthem and was followed by special remarks from CEO, Fred Telling and public recognition for all of the international pilots racing this week.

The day was filled with racing in all six classes of aircraft along with performances from the Smoke N’ Thunder Jet Truck, John Klatt’s Screamin’ Sasquatch Jet Waco, Commemorative Air Force Demo, USAF F-16 Demonstration, HondaJet Flight Demo, and the STIHL Lumberjack Show. Hundreds of students explored the STEM Education Zone and learned about 3D printing, drone and robotics. Fans and students roamed through the pits speaking with pilots and checking out the amazing aircraft up close in the National Avitaion Heritage Invitational display.

Friday, September 14this Military Day where all current and former Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard will receive free admission to the Reserved Seating area with a Military ID or proof of service, if proof of service is not available, there will be a simple questionnaire offered at the box office. Family members of the military community will receive a $10 discount in Reserved Seating tickets when accompanied by a military member.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th IS NEVADA APPRECIATION DAY AT THE STIHL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AIR RACES 

 -Nevada residents get $5.00 general admission-

 

RENO, Nev. [August 29, 2018] – The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) is pleased to announce Wednesday, September 12th has been named Nevada Appreciation Day at the 55th STIHL National Championship Air Races. All current Nevada residents will be offered a special General Admission rate of only $5.00 with proof of a Nevada state ID or driver’s license.

“As a Nevada local non-profit, we want to give our residents the opportunity to come out and experience the Races,” said Tony Logoteta, COO of RARA. “We are excited to provide Nevadans with an even more affordable way to enjoy a fun and memorable day at the Races with their families, and experience the thrill of watching the world’s fastest motorsport.”

The schedule for Wednesday at the Races will be a full day including qualifications, racing and demonstrations. The morning will have the final timed qualifying sessions from 8:00am-12:00pm, and official racing starting at 12:00pm with heats for Formula One’s, Biplanes, T-6’s and Jets. A number of demonstrations will be practicing in the afternoon including the HondaJet Demo, the Commemorative Air Force Demo and Gene McNeely’s T-6 80th Anniversary Demo. The static displays will also be arriving and being staged after 5:00pm.

RARA Announces Racer Lineup for 2018 STIHL National Championship Air Races

Racers Announced for the 55th  STIHL National Championship Air Races

Reno, Nev. – The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) is pleased to announce the highly-anticipated racing lineup for the 55th STIHL National Championship Air Races, scheduled September 12-16, 2018 at Reno-Stead Airport.

The event will feature six racing classes including Unlimited, Jet, Sport, T6, Formula One and Biplane, with speeds reaching over 500 miles per hour. Defending Gold champions returning this year include Rick Vandam flying American Spirit in the Jet Class, Jeff Lavelle flying Race 39 in the Sport Class, John Lohmar flying Radial Velocity in the T6 Class, Lowell Slatter flying Fraed Naught in the Formula One Class and Andrew Buehler flying Phantom in the Biplane Class.

Returning to Reno this year following long absences in the Unlimited Class are Brent Hisey flying Miss America, Mike Brown flying Goldfinger (formerly Risky Business) and Lady B, previously known as Bardahl Miss, will be flown by Michael Pfleger. Graeme Frew, flying Full Noise is returning to Reno for the second year in a row from New Zealand, and for the first time in decades a P63 Kingcobra will round the pylons at Reno.

“This is an exciting lineup of talented pilots flying beautiful planes, and we expect to see some close and competitive racing in all of the classes,” said Tony Logoteta, RARA COO. “We are really looking forward to welcoming back some teams that haven’t been to Reno in years and also seeing all of the members of this passionate racing community that follow our one-of-kind event.”
