The National Championship Air Races and Reno Air Racing Association are proud to congratulate scholarship recipient Evan Gray on earning his Instrument Rating.
If there were a checklist for being a true Nevadan, Evan would have it covered: pilot, hunter, camper, hard worker and even a little line dancer when he’s not in the cockpit. Fittingly, earning an instrument rating has a lot in common with mastering a good two-step. It requires discipline, trust in the process, and the ability to stay focused and moving forward even when you can’t see the entire path ahead.
As a Reno Air Racing Association scholarship recipient, Evan has made the most of every opportunity presented to him. Through hard work, dedication, and an unwaveringly positive attitude, he has steadily built an impressive aviation résumé and continues to set a strong example for aspiring aviators.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Evan’s aviation journey is the breadth of experience he has already gained. He has logged flight time in more than 14 different aircraft types, an accomplishment that speaks to both his commitment and versatility as a pilot. Each aircraft offers unique lessons, helping pilots develop adaptability, sharpen decision-making skills, and deepen their understanding of aviation. Those experiences will undoubtedly serve Evan well throughout his flying career.
While his growing list of certificates and aircraft experience is impressive, what truly sets Evan apart is his approach to learning. He meets every challenge with enthusiasm, humility, and a genuine desire to improve. Whether he’s flying through the clouds, exploring Nevada’s outdoors, or stepping onto the dance floor, Evan consistently demonstrates the determination and mindset that lead to success.
This accomplishment would not have been possible without the guidance and support of his instructors at Great Basin Aviation, Andrew Spanier and Lucas Murphy. Their mentorship played an important role in helping Evan reach this milestone, and we extend our congratulations and appreciation to both of them.
Earning an Instrument Rating is a significant achievement and an important step in any pilot’s journey. Evan has successfully navigated through the clouds and added another credential to an already impressive aviation foundation.
Congratulations, Evan. We look forward to following your journey and seeing where your next step in aviation takes you.
